This 2006 Dodge Charger R/T Is Actually a Pickup Truck in (a Bad) Disguise

I miss the El Camino every day. The car/truck combination known as the Ute is a big missing piece of the puzzle for American truck fans. As Ford relaunches its range of small trucks, Jeep gives us the Gladiator, and Nissan just redesigns its Frontier, automakers understand that people need trucks, but not always a 40-foot-long monster that weighs billions of pounds. Since none of these automakers currently make food products, someone decided to take matters into their own hands and build the 2006 Dodge Charger R/T pickup.

Dodge load too cold

This loader is a mule of a machine. Business in the front, party in the back. According to The Drive, Bad Mama Jamm’s life began with a 2006 Charger R/T, but with a little help from the Smyth Performance conversion kit, she blossomed into her true form, a mullet. I mean, the Dodge Charger pickup.

Smyth Performance has been known to make a few cuts in his time. Last year we covered the Audi Ute conversion, and it was ugly then, and this one is ugly now. But ugliness doesn’t mean I don’t like it. Smith Performance begins with an upgrade to the vehicle. Remember, they cut a piece out of the car and added a bed. Reinforcements are needed here. According to The Drive, this loader’s new bed can carry up to 800 pounds.

What is the reason for this care?

Being a Charger R/T, it is powered by a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. It’s a good thing it makes an impressive 340 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, because the conversion doesn’t exactly save weight.  Smyth Performance includes replacement fiberglass quarter panels, a steel tailgate, aluminum surfaces for the interior bed, and glass and structural reinforcements in the rear. It has a cool engine, but a boring automatic transmission.

APPROPRIATE: Live out your El Camino dreams with imported Australian Utes.

According to Bring a Trailer’s announcement, converting the ute wasn’t the only thing the owner did when he got it in 2018. Other modifications include 20-inch chrome Hellcat-style wheels, Eibach lowering springs, Koni dampers and polished rectangular exhausts.

Although it is a very strange bird, it is well preserved and the record is well kept. In 2018, professional replacement parts wear on the brakes, steering and front components, alternator, battery, coolant expansion tank and air filter.

Do you want to eat or what?.

Once the Charger’s transformation was complete, the seller repainted it in glossy black, which is the icing on the cake for this odd Sunday muscle car. As we mentioned earlier, this mutant loader is currently on Bring a Trailer.

At the time of writing, trading volume has reached $8,500 with 5 days to go. People seem to like him and who doesn’t. This one is so well done and fits the car so well that you wonder why Dodge didn’t just do that.

With demand for small trucks declining and automakers trying to downsize their large trucks or revitalize older models, why aren’t they thinking along the same lines? The potential is there. They are smaller, more fuel efficient, easy to drive and park in big cities, and look great. I think there’s a real game here. Bring back the food!
