The Best Travel Trailers and Motorhomes for Show Dogs

The abbreviation RV stands for Recreational Vehicle. Yet many Americans use them for commercial purposes. Marketers, artists and political candidates use them when they travel the country. You will also find that many Best in Show champions have been using RVs since their first local competition. We review the best dog show caravans and mobile homes.

We will show you how big the world of show dogs has become, why the show dog community loves recreational vehicles and what good examples are currently on the market. Whether you are a newcomer to the community or a veteran looking to improve your skills, you will be amazed at what today’s trainers have to offer.

What is a dog show?

If you’ve never seen it before or need a dog to explain it to beginners, we’ll give you a brief overview. At the end of the 19th century. In the 19th century, breeders and dog lovers were concerned about dog breed standards. For example, French bulldogs originally had straight bat-shaped ears or pinky ears that were then tilted back.  After all, the breed standard prescribed bat ears.

Just as we must determine the best caravan or motorhome, the judge must find the best dog. When a judge judges a dog at a show, he is comparing the dog to his interpretation of the written breed standard with respect to appearance, temperament and other qualifying factors. A dog that meets the standard wins the event in question (i.e. Best of Breed, Best in Show, etc.). The judge uses a point system.

The results of the show determine the value of a dog’s future pedigree. Today, purebred dogs participating in these shows can trace their lineage back to champions of the Westminster Kennel Club (WKC), the American Kennel Club (AKC) or the National Kennel Club (NKC). If you think your dog has what it takes, you can read more about the different steps on the AKC website.

Each circuit has developed to host many events other than the training dog show. Other events highlight the many skills that the different races possess.

One event in particular caught our attention at one point. Andrew Roe Yori competed in the Flying Disc Tournament with his white Pit Bull Wallace. Little known for their rebounding, Wallace and Roe worked hard to become national champions. Not only is Wallace unclean, he found Roe at a dog shelter. You can read his story in a biography written by Jim Horant.

Caravans are ideal for show dogs and their owners.

Why take an RV to a dog show?

If you have ever walked through the preparation area of a dog show, you will see exhibitors with bags full of materials working hard to put the finishing touches on their dogs. Repair loose hair, brush out dead hairs at the last minute, or try to properly model the poodle’s jointed hair.

There are plenty of the best caravans and motorhomes in the parking lot for an RV show. What do experienced exhibitors and dog owners know that others don’t?

Nearly half of dog show attendees travel with an RV for a variety of reasons. The first is that you can take everything with you. It is invaluable to be able to store all your care products, food and show clothes in one place. You don’t have to worry about packing and unpacking; everything is ready to go in one place.

Another advantage is related to their definition of RV. The wagon is equipped with a shower or sink that serves as a washing station. A table or counter is ideal for the first phase of care. At the end of each day, there is an exhibitor bed just a few feet from the exhibit. If they are hungry, they have a full kitchen. Human participants can even put together the secret recipe that will make their champion shine in the arena.

And finally, if a competing dog starts to get overwhelmed, the van becomes his mobile home territory. If the dogs are running national competitions, they need to be familiar with the chaos behind the scenes. Newcomers to local shows may need time to reflect so they can give their best. On hot summer days, air conditioning is the best way to keep your dog healthy. Finding the best caravan or motorhome for you and your dog is crucial to creating a space and experience for yourself.

Riding with your champion

As you prepare for life at a dog show, you’ve probably already received a lot of advice, so we won’t repeat it all. We want to mention those who travel in the world of vans.

It’s about becoming familiar with the movement: Not all dogs like to travel. Being away from their territory can make dogs anxious. In order for your dog to feel comfortable in the carrier, a process of several steps must be followed. Put in stuffed animals, couch pillows and other things that smell good.

Take him around the car. Let them in. Once they have smelled everything and found their place, take them around the block. The process will take several weeks. You know they’re ready when they get to the bus door before you do.

Documents and photos : One of the requirements for each competition is to submit updated veterinary records showing that your champion is in good order with all his vaccinations. You must have these documents on hand, along with your driver’s license, your veterinarian’s health certificate, and recent photos.

If your dog is lost, you need pictures to show others. The authorities will be looking for a microchip, will want to see photos to prove the dog is yours, and any documents to prove it is yours to release it. If you are walking a dog for someone else, make sure you have a contract as well.

Nurseries: If we want to give dogs freedom of movement, we must also ensure their safety when they are brought into a recreational vehicle. The best way to get around is to use kennels that are bolted to the sides or furniture. Give them something soft to lie on to dampen the vibrations of the road. The right size allows them to stand, sit or lie down.

Travel methodology : Experienced R-Vers use the 2-2-2 method. You’ll drive two hours there and two back, cover 200 miles a day and spend two nights at the end of each leg. The extra night gives the driver a free day to rest and freshen up. Some change the method by going 300 miles instead of 200.

The best way to apply this methodology is to plan in advance. Applications like RV Trip Wizard allow you to plan your route, find pet-friendly or dry campsites, and discover other attractions along the way. The accompanying tool, Campground Reviews, allows you to read campground reviews to find quality locations.

That’s what makes camping fun: Even if your dog has taken the Good Citizen course, you should read the camp rules in case you need to know about unusual rules. Some campsites have a dog walking service. It’s not a professional course, but it’s a great way for your dog to get rid of the energy of travel and make new friends.

The 22SW-L is a lightweight, all-terrain touring caravan. A complete pantry is ideal for displaying appliances and other supplies you may need. According to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), more than 60% of all recreational vehicles travel with pets. More than 90% of animal lovers have a dog. One recreational vehicle manufacturer has taken this fact to heart and developed animal-friendly design plans. Highland Ridge, a subsidiary of Jayco (now owned by Thor Industries), uses vinyl flooring in living rooms for easier cleaning and places its furnace registers against the wall to prevent kickback.

The 314RLS’ layout on the fifth wheel of the open cap range gives you everything you need to prepare for the big show. The kitchen island features a single off-centre sink with plenty of space for cleaning. If you are working with several dogs, a separate kitchen table will give you plenty of room to work.

After all this work, a stackable unit can be placed in a specialized washer/dryer for washing towels and preparing laundry. The large wardrobe in the front lets you store many different pieces to keep your show clothes fresh, so you don’t have to wear the same uniform all the time.

Russell Hartstein, CEO of Fun Paw Care – American Kennel Club.

Unlike most bathrooms, you have a lot more space with a bench in the middle of the knife cart instead of the rear two twin beds that other brands install. A doghouse can be placed in front of the refrigerator or under the LED TV in the middle of the car. Most importantly, you and your spouse will have plenty of room to sleep when you set out the sofa for the night, when it’s time to stop and rest.

It’s amazing how much space you can find in a class C motorhome. The automotive industry has focused on families for this motorhome class, but its versatility covers many different target groups. People choose Class C motorhomes for the balance between ease of use, space and exceptional performance.

The 27QB Coachman Freelander is a spacious plan for a skid-resistant van. Exhibitors will appreciate the separate bathroom, as they can wash their competitors without having to fight between the sink and the commode. The loft above the driver’s seat is ideal for storage when you don’t need it for sleeping.

In an article in RVLife, you can read how one of the exhibitors uses the C-class to show their Siberian Huskies. Thanks to her creative approach, her dogs travel safely and she has a lot of fun doing it. From his point of view, it would be amazing how many people in the show dog world live like caravans.

Class A Mobile Home in Newmar Canyon – Photo : Newmar

6. Newmar Canyon Star 3927 Class A Gas RV

Length: 39.11 Legs

Landing gear and gas engine : Ford F-53 chassis, 7.3 liter Godzilla V8 – 430 hp. at 475 lb-ft.

Tanks! F- 75 gal, G- 60 gal, B- 40 gal.

Sleep 8

The garage of the Newmar Canyon Star 3927 is 3 metres long and 2 metres wide and may seem very spacious. If you are preparing a collie for a competition, you may need every square inch. An insulated, waterproof and easy-to-clean room, a table with two shelves and all the necessary connections make this pet camper a mobile grooming station. You’ll find electrical outlets for all your essential toiletries and a water line in preparation for the washer/dryer.

As you prepare your champion in the garage, the LED TV and multimedia system can play in the background, allowing you to watch live updates and other events as they happen. The upstairs cupboard is large enough to hold many of your essential toiletries, so everything is within easy reach.

If you are going to care for Lady Miss Loki Common Dynamo (her registered name is AKC), you can connect the garden hose to the washer/dryer hookup and hang it above you on the top bunk. A step in the living room prevents water from entering the master bedroom. Don’t worry about no hot water, as the 3927 is the only model equipped with a standard tankless water heater.

After shaving, trimming and making up Miss Loki (her real name), you can unhook the vacuum cleaner you installed on the screed on the side to clean everything up. You can use a wet/dry vacuum cleaner to remove water and hair. Emptying the wet/dry tank of your grey or black tank will keep you on the right side of the law and allow you to concentrate on your work (until Miss Loki lives up to her name).

How to find the bestcaravans and motorhomes

First experience with carrier

If you want to give it a try, RVezy has pet campers for rent. A peer-to-peer RV rental like this allows you to search for RVs in your area that belong to real people. The owner will give you a tour of the car so you know how everything works.

We recommend starting slowly with local dog shows to be close to home. That way, if you forget something, you can easily recover it. Some rental companies offer additional services, such as delivery of the RV, installation and assembly, to take some of the stress off your hands. During the rental process, you can contact the landlord to verify that the rental is going well.

If after your first experience you decide it’s worth it, we recommend renting multiple times to find the best caravan or motorhome for your needs. Try different categories, brands and floor coverings. Before you buy your recreational vehicle, it’s time to get first-hand information on what suits your needs. In the meantime, you can do some more research on Camper Smarts to find out what the RV market has to offer. When you are ready to buy, what you have learned and experienced can save you time, money and effort.

After you leave the dealership, make sure you continue to work with Camper Smarts and stay up to date on the latest trends and best camping tips. The best way to solve a problem is to know how to avoid it. If you are concerned about the maintenance of your RV, you can focus on the blue ribbon.

Enjoy the time between

If you’re traveling from one dog show to another, make sure you take the time to rest. Not only have they left the dog show community, but they have joined the recreational vehicle community. Don’t be afraid to join your comrades around their campfire. You will see that the campfire has a long tradition and is a sign of hospitality to the neighboring campers. With all your dog show stories, you’ll find an enthusiastic audience and a willingness to share your RV wisdom with them.

Every year the vans become more cosy inside. Don’t be surprised if you fall asleep in the massage theater chair or plop down on the couch. When it’s time to head home, your faithful four-legged friend may protest his seat because he loves RV life so much.

Make sure you always have your phone handy when you travel. You never know when you’ll find something photographic for your dog’s social media fan page. These are the moments that remind you why you love the sport so much or what makes your dog so special.

Your beagle may fall in love with a branch that is too big for him, but he is trying to figure out how to catch it. Your Min-Pin thinks he can stare at a cow. Then there was the moment three days ago when you spent six hours working on the skin of the Great Piranha, but today was his first experience with a mud puddle. It’s a good thing you chose a van with an outdoor shower.
