The 2022 Ram 2500 Needs the Beefy Allison Transmission Upgrade

As of right now, the campers in my life are using various types of vans, and I am a little shocked at how little of the new Ram 2500 they have seen. However, the Ram 2500 is one of the most powerful, durable, and comfortable trucks on the market right now. It has all the off-road capability and looks you could want, all while being about as comfortable as a luxury car. However, there is one aspect of the Ram 2500 that I wish was on this truck: a beefier Allison transmission.

The 2022 Ram 2500 has been in the news a lot lately. Many are wondering about the future of the truck, and the big questions are the same: Will the truck have a diesel or a gasoline powerplant? Will the truck have a plug-in hybrid system, or will it be powered by a diesel engine with an electric motor?

Competition between heavy-duty trucks is about to really heat up. Someone tell the 2022 Ford F-250 to watch out because the 2022 Ram 2500 is coming with impressive upgrades. The Ram 2500 even could get the new Allison Transmission.

The 2022 Ram 2500 could gain the new Allison Transmission

2022 Ram 2500 | Ram Tons of upgrades are coming to the 2022 Ram 2500, but we hope one rumor becomes a reality. According to Pickup Truck News, the Ram 2500 could get a brand-new 10-speed Allison Automatic Transmission. Including a new Allison Transmission would provide the most notable upgrade for the model year. But you may be wondering what’s so great about an Allison Transmission? First of all, it’s a beautiful name. Allison Transmission was founded in 1915 by James A. Allison and is now the largest designer, developer, manufacturer, and distributor of medium and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems in the world. The Allison fully automatic transmissions are engineered to last. They are durable, reliable, and have a lower cost to operate than competitively equipped vehicles. They have fewer maintenance requirements leading to less downtime and lower costs. There are no power interruptions during shift changes, meaning more horsepower and torque is sent to the wheels for faster trips, superior acceleration, and seamless full-powershifts. The driveline is protected, plus you get a smooth and comfortable ride.

What to expect with the Ram 2500

RELATED: What’s the Difference Between the Ram 1500 and the Ram 2500? We hope the 2022 Ram 2500 gets a new Allison Transmission, but we’ll have to wait and see. What we do know is that the Ram 2500 is getting attractive new looks. It will have a sharper exterior design with more defined lines. It will also have a larger split grille and narrower LED headlights. It’s safe to expect tons of customization among multiple trim levels with a few special editions. For example, the Limited Night Edition sports black accents for a more confident attitude. It rides on 20-inch wheels and includes tons of matte black accents. The interior is being refreshed to enhance its utility and comfort. It should borrow features from the Ram 1500, including more high-quality materials such as wood and chrome accents for a premium feel. You’ll probably find the large 12-inch touchscreen, the next-gen Uconnect5 infotainment system, and more standard driver assistance features too.

How powerful is the 2500?

word-image-9464 2022 Ram 2500 interior | Ram The 2022 Ram 2500 is expected to carry over two engine options. The 6.4-liter V8 gasoline engine provides 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The 6.7-liter V6 turbo diesel Cummins engine pumps out 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. The 2022MY may increase its torque. When properly equipped, the 2021 Ram 2500 can tow up to 19,680 lbs and carry a payload of up to 4,010 lbs. There are several additional towing features to help you confidently haul your loads too. For example, you can opt for the 12,000 lbs Warn ZEON-12 winch, surround-view camera with trailer reverse guidance view, trailer tire pressure monitoring system, auto-level rear air suspension with bed lowering mode, Bilstein gas-charged monotube shocks, front and rear locking differentials, and an electronic front sway bar. The Ram 2500 begins around $35,000 and isn’t expected to rise much in price. The 2022 model should be available toward the end of 2021, and we can’t wait to learn more. We will keep you updated about the Allison Transmission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the 2022 Ram have an Allison Transmission?

Last week, we shared our predictions for what automakers will include in their 2022 model updates. While the Ram 1500 is getting a new 5.7-liter V8 and some new styling features, it’s still missing an Allison transmission in the coming model year. The 2022 Ram 1500 stalls when it’s not shifting at the perfect time. The reason for this is called slippage. The transmission shifts gears ever so slightly slower than it should, which causes it to stall when you’re trying to accelerate. The Allison transmission upgrade will correct this by correcting the slippage, as well as increasing the horsepower to the tune of 1200 horsepower.

What transmission is in 2022 Ram 2500?

You may not have known, but the 2022 Ram 2500 has an Allison I-4 transmission. This transmission was first introduced in 2015 and is a heavy duty transmission that is capable of handling the extra weight of the 2022 Ram 2500. It is not uncommon to see the 2018 Ram 2500 and the 2022 Ram 2500 swapping out transmissions.  The Ram 2500 is a truck with a 6.4L V8 engine and the I4 transmission. The 6.4L V8 is the same engine found in the 2018 Ram 2500, but with an I4 transmission, the 6.4L V8. Continuing our ongoing coverage of the next generation of the Ram 1500, a major transmission upgrade is needed for the 2500 and 3500 lineups, so we decided to take a look at what the options are out there. In anticipation of the update, we recently tested a 2019 Ram 2500 four-wheel-drive with a six-speed automatic transmission. With an 0-60 time of just over six seconds, the truck was quick and responsive, but one of its strongest attributes was its fuel economy.

Is Dodge getting the Allison Transmission?

The all-new Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups have the same engine, the 6.4L Cummins diesel, but the 2500 lacks the power and fuel economy of the 3500. So, if the 3500 is the model to have, why not get it? Good question. But, only weaklings would pass up the new Allison transmission that’s available on the 3500. That’s because this transmission has been proven in the field for years, and it’s the best available. The Allison transmission is engineered for the rigors of the off-road environment—specifically, the unique needs of the long-wheelbase 2500 without the added weight. A new class of heavy-duty trucks is almost here, and Dodge is one of them. The Ram 2500, Dodge Durango, and Dodge Grand Caravan are going to be the toughest and most capable trucks on the road. They’ll be built on a new high-strength steel frame, and they’ll get the next-generation Allison transmission. The new transmissions will have even more power and greater durability than the current ones.
