The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Shrieks Out of the Shadows

Traditionally, the GT3 and GT2 form the framework of the current generation of the Porsche 911. These are the sharpest, fastest, and often most desirable options the 996 also has. And in 2022, the Porsche 911 of the 992 generation will finally get the GT3 treatment. But even before anyone drives, it seems the wait is worth it.

The 2022Porsche 911 GT3 is essentially a race car, according to Autoblog.

Although the base Porsche 911 992 doesn’t wear a turbo badge, all current-generation 911s are equipped with a turbocharger. That changes with the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3.

Like all previous GT3 models, the 992 generation is equipped with a naturally aspirated engine, reports Car and Driver. A model that Porsche says is almost identical to the GT3 Cup race car, reports Road & Track. And as far as we can tell, this is not marketing hyperbole.

The rear-mounted 4.0-liter flat-six engine of the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 also bears many similarities to the outgoing 911 Speedster, Autoblog reports. However, it contains many pistons and unique throttle bodies. The result is an output of 502 hp and 346 lb-ft, and a rpm of 9,000 rpm, according to Hagerty. And all that power goes to the rear wheels.

Although a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is standard, the 2022 911 GT3 still offers a six-speed manual transmission as an option, reports The Drive. Porsche hasn’t released acceleration data for the manual version, but says the automatic version goes from 0 to 100 mph in 3.2 seconds, Automobile reports.

The red line at 900 rpm is not the only feature.

As impressive as the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3’s engine is, it’s not the only thing that helped it conquer the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, R&T reports. By the way: The 2022 GT3’s time is 6:55.2 seconds faster than the 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar, reports R&T.

According to Motor1, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 comes standard with independent suspension and rear wheel steering. It also features a hand-adjustable McLaren Senna gooseneck rear spoiler, a front diffuser and a front spoiler. Although carbon-ceramic brakes are optional, the iron rotors that come standard on the 911 GT3 are lighter than those on the 911 Turbo S, reports MotorTrend.

Talk about easy: The 2022 GT3 sits on forged aluminum wheels. And for the first time on a base GT3, Roadshow reports, the GT3 RS’s street tires are optional. And the bonnet, rear wing and rear spoiler – yes, they are made of carbon fibre. Even the glass in the windows is designed to save weight.

And if you want to reduce the weight even further, the optional carbon fibre seats save 20kg each, reports Autoblog. Also, the GT3 has no back seat. However, it is not known if the half-cell shown in the press release will come to the United States.
