Consumer Reports (CR) has been testing and reviewing cars for over 25 years, and has a well-earned reputation for their research and reviews. And of course, CR has always been a very polarizing source of information, with some people viewing their reporting and ratings as fact and others viewing it as opinion. This is a bit like the ongoing debate over climate change where some defend the science and others argue that the science is little more than “manufactured pseudo-science”. But, CR has always maintained their independence and impartiality, and have never been swayed by a manufacturer or lobby group, or even CR’s own advertisers.
The 2021 Kia K5 review from USA Today is in, and it wasn’t the only one that received the highest rating. The Kia G80 received a “very good” rating from the magazine, while the Kia K5 received a “good” rating. This is the third time in a row that the Kia K5 has received a very good rating from the magazine.
Consumer Reports has released their first-ever look at the Kia K5, and the results may be disappointing to Hyundai fans. The Kia K5 available in America is the Korean automaker’s entry into the mid-sized crossover class, and it’s just as rugged and ruggedized as the rest of the Korean automaker’s vehicles… but it’s also just as costly. That’s not the case in its homeland—the Kia K5 was rated by Hyundai as “the toughest, safest vehicle in its class” when it launched in Korea, so it’s no surprise that it topped the Hyundai Genesis G80 model, released last October.. Kia has been working hard for a while now. The 2021 Kia K5 is just one of several Kia vehicles that seem to be pushing away luxury names such as Genesis, Buick, and Lexus, to mention a few. In this instance, Consumer Reports’ assessment of the 2021 Kia K5 just overshadowed the review of the 2021 Genesis G80.

Is the Kia K5 a decent vehicle for 2021?
Consumer Reports just finished an evaluation of the Kia K5 and found it to be very excellent. The 2021 Kia K5 received a 72/100 total rating. Although it isn’t breaking any records, Consumer Reports was quite enthusiastic about it. It received high marks for its excellent fuel efficiency, user-friendly controls, and roomy cabin.
The 2021 Genesis G80 sedan, on the other hand, received a 67/100 rating. This isn’t a bad score, but it just scraped the top of the “recommended” list. The 2021 Genesis G80 features a comfortable ride, excellent handling, and outstanding fit and finish, according to Consumer Reports. Meanwhile, the G80’s score was harmed by its perplexing controls and low projected dependability.
The Genesis G80 for 2021 is lovely, but Consumer Reports only gives it a passing grade.

In their assessment of the 2021 Genesis G80, Consumer Reports loved nearly everything about it. However, this model’s track record for dependability isn’t excellent. As a result, CR did not have confidence in its future dependability and awarded it a two-out-of-five reliability rating.
The base engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower. Although CR claims that the engine is fast, they note a little delay when starting from a standstill. A 3.5-liter V6 engine is available as an option, providing even more power and smoothness. The Genesis G80 gets 24 mpg, which isn’t terrible but falls short of rivals like the Audi A6 2.0T.
The 2021 Genesis G80 features a smooth ride while having a strong suspension that enables for quick and snappy handling. When it comes to premium brands, this is crucial. A quiet, pleasant interior and a smooth ride are key features of a premium car. The Genesis performs well in this situation.
What is it about the 2021 Kia K5 review that Consumer Reports finds so appealing?
Kia K5 EX | 2021
To begin with, the projected dependability is a three out of five. In CR’s grading system, this is a major element. A new vehicle with issues is one certain method to ensure that a client is dissatisfied with their purchase. The Kia K5 review was outstanding in almost every other area.
The basic 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine outperforms its class, producing respectable power for such a tiny displacement engine. It also achieves a respectable total fuel economy of 32 mpg.
The Kia K5 performed well in the road test, much like the Genesis G80. The comfortable ride was a big hit with CR. The Kia’s suspension was soft over bumps on the road but stiff enough in the bends to keep the car nimble.
The 2021 Kia K5’s basic model doesn’t come with many premium features. However, if you upgrade to a higher trim level, the inside may soon become near-luxury. The steering wheel material, regardless of whatever version you buy, always feels cheap.
Why should you choose the Kia K5 over the Genesis G80 in 2021?
The Genesis is unquestionably a better vehicle, with much more luxurious amenities. However, the vehicle as a whole isn’t any better. The 2021 Kia K5 is more dependable, has greater fuel economy, and is still comfortable and attractive.
There’s also the issue of money to consider. The Kia K5 is much less expensive than the Genesis. The G80 costs between $47,700 and $62,250, while the Kia K5 costs between $23,590 and $30,590.
The fancier vehicle isn’t necessarily the better car, as Consumer Reports often demonstrates.
