This Land Rover Defender is Delicious and Feeds 2,000 People

Apparently people are not glorified on TikTok just because of a car accident. People are now glorified by the kitchen? The social media platform, which I still don’t fully understand, has started preparing and cooking fancy dishes that people can recreate at home. I don’t know, that’s what my wife tells me. Although the famous baker in TikTok made this huge cake, I doubt anyone at home is trying to recreate it. Land Rover has decided to order a replica of the Land Rover Defender to celebrate the two millionth Defender.

I’d like a piece of the Defender sign with my coffee, please.

The TikToker responsible for the giant car creation cake is Lara Mason of Anything Cake. According to The Drive, the 4×4 bakery became a minor TikToc superstar after she began sharing photos and videos of her past creations. Mason makes cakes modeled after various pop culture icons, including Baby Yoda, Billie Eilish and Harry Potter.

The Drive reports that Land Rover contacted Mason and asked him to build this colossal cake in 2015, when Land Rover reached its two millionth Defender. He built a special wooden frame around which the cake could be built and baked.

As usual on TikTok and other social media, she recorded a temporary video of the assembly of the cake and posted it online. The sponge cake she used to make the cake is light and delicious, but it is not the strongest building block. The wooden frame she made was used to support several layers of the folded cake, giving the sculpture enough rigidity to stand long enough to be served – and, of course, to publish the photo on social media.

There is always room for cake.

When the cooking was over, she had to start adding details. The “painting” was done with icing and food coloring, and details like windows, trim, door handles, lights, etc. were molded with a stronger type of icing called fondant. The Drive reports that this huge 4×4 treat was enough to feed 2,000 people at the Land Rover party.

Replica of a huge Land Rover Defender : cake | driving, cake everything.

in connection with the realization that the 2021 Land Rover Defender may well be the best ever.

The following year Jaguar-Land Rover opened the new factory building and wanted a cake to commemorate the day. They knew it only took one woman to get the job done. After the resounding success of the 4×4 treat, Mason made an edible engine this time. The coins looked so good they were hard to eat. Bolts, castings and other parts prepared the block for installation.

From Land Rover to Mickey Mouse

After a great success in the baking business and the rise of TikTok, Mason is getting orders for other automotive treats. She has orders for replicas of Aston Martin, Mini Cooper and Harley Davidson.

The real deal came when he was asked to make a hot cake for the king of cartoons himself, Mickey Mouse. Even though TikiTok and other companies contribute to his fame, it is difficult to make a cake for Mickey Mouse.

Although Mason’s is known for its giant bicycles and pop star cakes, it also always takes orders for regular-sized and shaped cakes, in case for some strange reason you like smaller cakes. All I know is that I’ve never wanted to eat so many hoops.

Stellantis Won’t Bring Peugeot To US

The picture of Stellantis is becoming clearer by the day. CEO Carlos Tavares is talking about it. Several years ago, the former PSA group announced its intention to bring the Peugeot brand back to the United States. After the merger with Fiat Chrysler, from which Stellantis emerged, these plans were scuttled. Now Tavares says the Peugeot will not come to the United States.

In a telephone interview with the media today, Mr. Tavares said, “So far, I don’t think this is one of the priorities that we want to be next.” He continued by saying that the combination of talent, capital and technology should be focused on existing brands. “We need to improve where we need to improve and accelerate where we need to accelerate because we already have a very strong presence in this market.”

This “strong presence” refers to American brands.

2021 Peugeot plug-in hybrid models | PSA

This “strong presence” applies to Dodge and Chrysler as well as the obvious Ram and Jeep. But he was more specific about the Chrysler brand. Tavares said Chrysler was “one of the three historic pillars of Stellantis,” according to Car and Driver. The other two were Fiat and Peugeot. He added, “We are very excited and I want to give this brand a future.

Nothing has been said publicly about the Chrysler brand until today. With Chrysler for the old 300 sedan and the Pacifica minivan, things looked bleak. With these statements, it seems that Chrysler is a lock for future new products. Although no one elaborates on this, it is suspected that Peugeot will use Chrysler as an intermediary to change its plans to conquer the U.S. stellantis.

Last year, the Chrysler brand sold mostly Pacifica vans. Of the 110,464 Chrysler units sold, nearly 94,000 were Pacificas. Only 16,653,300 sedans were purchased. This figure is down 43% from 2019. The Pacifica experienced a slight decrease of 4% compared to 2019.

Chrysler has reduced the number of available trim levels of the 300 this year.

Peugeot 3008 Peugeot 3008 | Peugeot Belgium

Chrysler is one of the few automakers that does not offer an SUV.

This year, Chrysler reduced the number of available trim levels. The Limited and 300C models were dropped, leaving only the Touring and S trim levels, leading to speculation that Chrysler was headed for the history books. And nothing else was in Chrysler’s five-year plan, and its days seemed numbered.

For Stellantis, it makes more sense to take full advantage of the merger. Instead of killing a brand that hasn’t sold here since 1991, she can bring it down. Chrysler could relaunch Peugeots and do so with an integrated service, parts and dealer infrastructure. Yes, it will require some scaling up, but far less than launching not only new models but an unknown brand.

We are now curious to see what Stellantis does with Chrysler, which Peugeot models they choose and what the differences between them are. We don’t expect much before 2023, but with Peugeot and Renault’s existing models, we could see something in early 2022.

The Wrong 2021 Land Rover Defender Is Getting a V8 Under the Hood

Since the unveiling of the Land Rover Defender 2021, critics and purists have complained about the lack of a V8 under the hood. Somewhat surprisingly, the British automaker has decided to equip the SUV with a V8 for a limited time. Unfortunately, it’s not the Defender you’re thinking of.

According to Land Rover Classic, 25 new second-generation Defender variants will be equipped with a 5.0-liter engine under the hood. Fortunately, you will also get a wide range of off-road products.

Which Land Rover Defender 2021 will get a V8?

Land Rover Defender Works V8 Trophy | Land Rover

The all-new Land Rover Defender 2021 marks a subtle revival of the second-generation model. It is rare that two generations of a very popular model are sold side by side. Yet Land Rover has every reason to give its SUV one last kick.

Under the hood of the Land Rover Defender 2021 is a 5.0-liter V8 that develops just under 400 horsepower. Power is sent to all four wheels by an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. You also get updated brakes and a steering kit. The result could be that this is one of the most competent second-generation advocates ever built.

On the off-road side, the Land Rover Defender 2021 has a front winch, a multi-point shiplap, a roof rack, body protection and a raised air intake. You also get off-road tires and headlights.

That said, this Defender is still as eccentric as ever. Land Rover would equip these new models with Black Windsor leather upholstery and Recaro sport seats.

A total of 25 units will be produced

The 2020 defender who lay broken on the ground is literally out of control.

There would be two major obstacles if you were hoping to get one of these 2021 Land Rover Defender V8 models. The first is that only 25 of these vehicles will be built. And if you live in the U.S., you can’t cross the Atlantic.

This Land Rover Defender 2021 is available in 90 and 110 body styles. However, the only exterior color is Eastnor yellow, a tribute to the 1989 Camel Trophy Defender winner.

As you’d expect from an ultra-exclusive SUV, it’s certainly not cheap. According to Land Rover, the base model 90 starts at £195,000, or $270,092 in the UK. However, expect the price to rise for the 110 larger models.

Will the current generation of SUVs also have a V8?

An image of a Land Rover Defender off-roading through some mud. 2021 Land Rover Defender | Land Rover

If you are a fan of the 2021 Land Rover Defender, there is still hope for a V8-powered variant in the United States. Last December, Motor1 reportedly spotted a prototype of the current generation model with a V8 under the hood.

However, this V8 will not be Land Rover’s 5.0-liter engine. According to Motor1, rumors suggest that the SUV will use BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Power output is expected to exceed 400 hp. Unfortunately, there is no indication of the type of transmission this SUV might use.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long for this model, which is rumored to run on a V8. According to Motor1, the powerful powertrain will make its debut in all 110 models before reaching the smaller 90s. It could start as early as mid-2021. From there, it could hit the streets pretty quickly.

The 2021 Mazda CX-3 Is a Great SUV That People Hate

Customer satisfaction is a strange and elusive thing. Take the Jeep Wrangler, for example. The car generally scores poorly in consumer reports, but surveys show that drivers are satisfied with their purchase. Meanwhile, truly reliable and affordable SUVs like the 2021 Mazda CX-3 are considered disappointing purchases by many customers.

Is the Mazda CX-3 2021 a good car?

The market is driven by small crossover commercial vehicles. People like the practicality of something that drives well and handles gas well, while still having room in a larger vehicle. The CX-3 meets these requirements, except in terms of size. According to customer feedback, the engine is lively, the handling agile and the looks dashing.

2021 Mazda CX-30 | Mazda North American Operations

It scored 73/100 on the CR test. With a starting price of $20,790, it is affordable considering its reliability, safety and functionality.

What is the engine lineup for the 2021 Mazda CX-3?

You see, the 2021 CX-3 isn’t fast at all. Yet its 2.0-liter 148-hp four-in-line has enough power to make you smile. The small 2.0-liter automatic transmission, paired with a six-speed automatic, isn’t the most advanced in the world, but it drives fast and smooth. The CX-3 comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available as an option – and that’s a good thing. The compromise in this modestly powerful small SUV is killer fuel economy. The CX-3 is second in its class, behind the Honda HR-V, at 28 mph.

How do you drive?

Like most of Mazda’s offerings, the CX-3 isn’t very powerful, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fast. The small SUV is very nimble and takes corners with ease. CR says it exhibits minimal body roll in tight corners. In addition, the steering is known to be well balanced and provides good feedback on the road. CR even says that driving the CX-3 on the test track was a “pleasure.”

RELATIVE: Can the Mazda CX-30 2021 handle its kind with a turbocharger?

Other aspects of the race get just as much love from the RC. The ride is comfortable, even if the suspension is a bit too stiff. In addition, CR found that road and wind noise are successfully suppressed, making the interior feel smooth and quiet.

So why don’t people like the CX-3?

Consumer Reports measures customer satisfaction by asking a series of questions about what drivers think about various aspects of the vehicle. Overall, only 52% of CX-3 buyers said they were satisfied with their choice and would buy it again. The majority of owners were satisfied with their driving experience-70 percent. But when it came to comfort and value, the numbers dropped significantly. Only 56% of owners were satisfied with value, while 43% found it comfortable.

He just didn’t succeed

Mazda has a good reputation in the automotive world. It has a long history of making reliable, affordable and fun cars and SUVs. One of the reasons people buy small SUVs is probably because they live with one foot in each world, the world of SUVs and sedans. However, most complaints about the CX-3 relate to the fact that the cabin and trunk space are too small. This segment is very popular, but it needs to be drawn on a thin line. If you make it too big, it is too big, but if you make it too small, you might as well buy a sedan that is more fuel efficient and offers more driving pleasure. The CX-3 seemed to be in the last straight line.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy a Mazda CX 3?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 gives you many reasons to drive it home from the dealership. This subcompact crossover not only drives very well, but is also very fuel efficient … While the new CX-3 is among the best in its class in many areas, it is far from perfect.

The TT in Audi TT Surprisingly Doesn’t Stand for Twin Turbo

The Audi TT is a true luxury sports car brand. Their sedans and coupes are good in terms of performance and comfort, but not good enough in terms of handling. Of course, you can spend a fortune to buy an Audi R8 supercar, or you can opt for the more modest but still performing Audi TT. With Audi, you can find out a lot about a car thanks to its name and badges. The Quattro edition, for example, tells you that the car is equipped with Audi’s coveted all-wheel drive system. Logically, the name TT would mean, well, two turbos, but surprisingly, that’s not the case.

A small sports car

Audi makes sedans and coupes that offer so much power that you feel like you’re driving a sports car, and the Audi TT seems to be on the back burner. The Audi TT can be found on the used market at a very affordable price, but the 2021 models can go up to $73,000. It has just about everything you could want in a new sports car, but its name might lead you to believe that the car is equipped with two turbochargers.

Audi TT – Tour Trophy

Although the Audi TT has a turbocharger, its name sounds more like a European racing event. The Isle of Man, a small country that most people don’t often think about, lies between Ireland and England and hosts the Isle of Man TT, short for Isle of Man Touring Trophy, two weeks a year over 37.73 miles of winding mountain roads – a bit like the tail of the dragon, one of the most dangerous roads in the country.

According to Autoweek, the forgotten DKW built motorcycles in the 1930s to compete in the TT on the Isle of Man. They finished the race with a 250cc engine that consisted of a single combustion chamber with two pistons, and won with the same engine in 1938 with rider Ewald Kluge at the wheel. Later DKW participated in a merger that resulted in the company’s integration into Audi. So the name TT actually comes from motorcycling and not cars or twin turbines as many think.

RELATIVE: The Toyota MR2 Spyder was Elise Poor’s Lotus that nobody bought.

An underrated sports car

To me, the Audi TT has always looked like a younger version of the Audi R8, the brand’s flagship. The sleek design of the body lines suits the car well and sets it apart from rival models that have steeper angles and a more spectacular body style. These small, lightweight sports cars are masters of driving, and they are rare enough to retain a certain “freshness factor,” although you may be asked several times whether this car has a twin turbo just because of the name.

So the TT part of the Audi TT name may not refer to a super biturbo under the hood, but in a subtle and thoughtful way it refers to a part of the company’s history.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Audi TT a biturbo?

The TT, launched in 1998, is not and never has been a bi-turbo (the TT is traditionally named after the Tourist Trophy race), so there is a slight lag when you press the chrome pedal. The engine weighs less than its predecessor, but it is also used by the cheaper compact A3, which is a sedan.

What does TT mean in the Audi TT?

The Audi TT takes its name from the highly successful NSU motorcycle racing tradition and the British Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy). The Audi TT is the world’s first motor racing car … The Audi TT also follows the NSU 1000TT, 1200TT and TTS cars of the 1960s and takes its name from motor racing.

The standard TT is equipped with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 228 hp. The mid-range TTS has an upgraded version of this engine with 288 hp, and the high-performance TT RS has a turbocharged 5-cylinder with 394 hp.

Critics Disagree on How Reliable the 2021 Honda Odyssey Is

If you want a reliable family hauler, chances are you want a new one. Why wouldn’t you? No one wants to have a vehicle they can’t rely on. As for the 2021 Honda Odyssey, unfortunately critics don’t quite agree on the reliability of this year’s model. While J.D. Power gave this year’s model an impressive reliability score, Consumer Reports was not so dazzled by the new Honda Odyssey this year.

2021 Honda Odyssey

Consumer Reports gave the Honda Odyssey 2021 a disappointing reliability rating.

When it comes to searching for new cars, Consumer Reports has some of the most comprehensive data available. Unfortunately, this data does not accurately reflect this year’s new Odyssey. According to Consumer Reports, the 2021 Honda Odyssey received two of the five expected reliability ratings, which of course makes it disappointing.

But unfortunately for the Honda Odyssey, this kind of low reliability is consistent with previous years’ models. The 2020 and 2019 Honda Odyssey received three out of five reliability ratings. The 2018 model received two out of five ratings. Overall, this is not good for the Honda Odyssey.

Consumers have more confidence in the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica than the 2021 Honda Odyssey.

Watch for these common complaints about the Honda Odyssey.

What caused the Honda Odyssey’s ratings to plummet? As it turned out, it was a couple of things. Consumer Reports data shows that some owners have had problems with the Odyssey’s transmission. Others have had problems with the vehicle’s suspension. But the most common complaints from owners? According to Consumer Reports, it has something to do with the electronics in the Honda Odyssey.

The long list of complaints about the Honda Odyssey has certainly influenced the opinions of Honda Odyssey owners. When asked if they would buy the car again, only 35 percent of owners answered yes. That’s not exactly a winning recommendation.

The most unreliable Honda vehicles.

J.D. Power has given the Honda Odyssey 2021 a slightly higher reliability rating.

Fortunately for the 2021 Honda Odyssey, J.D. Power gave it a slightly higher reliability rating. According to J.D. Power, this year’s model received an “excellent” rating for quality and reliability. This rating is fairly consistent with the way J.D. Power has rated the Honda Odyssey in recent years.

In fact, the last Odyssey model to receive a quality and reliability rating lower than “Great” is the 2018 Honda Odyssey, which received a quality and reliability rating of “Average.” But this rating seems a bit abnormal, as it is the only model year to receive such a low reliability rating from J.D. Power.

IN RELATION: The 2021 Honda Odyssey is no longer delayed.

Does that mean you should avoid the Odyssey?

Not necessarily. Of course, Consumer Reports and J.D. Power don’t quite agree on the reliability of this year’s Honda Odyssey. But that’s probably to be expected. This year’s model more than makes up for its reliability scores with some good marks on safety.

According to the IIHS, this year’s model is the Top Safety Pick+. The NHTSA also awarded it five stars for overall safety. While the Honda Odyssey may not have the highest reliability ratings, you can count on it to keep you and your family safe.

Modernization of suspensions

If you regularly drive full throttle, you instinctively know when your suspension is failing. If it’s terrible, it probably is. If you feel new vibrations or hear noises, investigate. Always do a cleaning and inspection after your trip. Things change over time, and without regular inspection we can’t notice deterioration.

If you are a beginner, watch for signs of wear. The forks may show signs of pitting, or the front end may begin to neglect. In addition to riding at full speed, you may notice a lack of feel and lack of control of the front end. Steering will be sluggish because the front end is higher.

If the rear shock is not working, you run the risk of flying out of control due to the larger rear squeal. There may be
visible signs
that your suspension has failed. Check for oil leaks around the rubber seals. Since a dirt bike’s suspension is adjustable, it is always important to know your settings. Properly tuning your bike when you first purchased it will give you a foundation. TeamMA recommends building a good relationship with your local dealer or MX specialist. Once you know your settings, troubleshooting will become second nature.

If your motorcycle’s suspension isn’t working or you’re not satisfied with its performance, an upgrade is natural. For starters, you’ll gain confidence in your bike and be able to ride faster on flat roads, through corners and over obstacles, waves and jumps. Upgrades or replacements can improve lap times, handling and overall performance. At TeamMA, we believe there are two main options for improving your motorcycle’s suspension.

1. Option 1: Reconstruction

Dirt Bike Suspension partsConsider adding new springs, seals and oil to restore your motorcycle’s existing mud suspension. Perform a partial or complete suspension upgrade at one time. We recommend that you change the suspension’s oil regularly. You can also opt for more or less stiff springs, depending on your terrain and riding style. Upgrading your old oil and outdated springs will greatly improve the handling of your motorcycle and allow you to ride faster.

Option 2: Exchange

You may want to upgrade your motorcycle’s suspension and replace it completely. A suspension upgrade may be less expensive than a full repair. For the novice rider looking to replace the suspension with something new and more durable, a replacement may be more appropriate. You may even be able to go to an authorized service center or dirt bike repair shop to save time and effort. There are several front and rear suspension replacement options available.

Dirt bike modifications – Brake modifications

Dirt Bike Braking Mods - How To Improve Your Braking

Your motorcycle’s brakes should always be in perfect condition. Every time we go faster, we need to stop faster or at least more efficiently. Brakes should be part of your normal maintenance routine.

With the best brakes, you’ll be faster on the road!

How? If you have a good technique, your dirt bike will accelerate or brake. We always try to avoid freewheeling. During a dream ride, we accelerate longer and brake shorter. The more you accelerate, the shorter your braking time. To set consistently good lap times, good brakes will help you go faster.

If you plan to modify off-road motorcycles, brakes should be on the list from the very beginning. Stainless steel and braided hoses are essential. The idea behind these hoses is that they can withstand more pressure than original factory parts. Braided hoses reduce the chance of leaks due to rubber defects, excessive pressure or severe shocks.

Here are examples of Galfer stainless steel and braided hoses:

Now that your bike has improved handling and braking, it is important that you take the time to get used to your new vehicle. At TeamMA, we always recommend that our readers get used to their bike’s improved handling before making any modifications to their dirt bike. Updating too many things at once can be confusing. Keep up with each update and track the improvements. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll benefit from upgrading the suspension and brakes. Now you are ready for an exciting upgrade in engine performance.

MX Engine Modifications – Performance

Dirt Bike Engine mods - High performance upgrades for your dirt bike engine

When upgrading the engine of a dirt bike, it is important not to rush. Engine upgrades should be done in a logical order. Start with the obvious wear and tear on the upper part. Knocking noises, oil leaks, excessive lubricant or fuel consumption and reduced performance are all signs of engine wear. Engine maintenance increases compression, optimizes performance and extends engine life.

If you are upgrading the exhaust system, it is almost always best to do so in conjunction with a jet carburetor on older motorcycles and engine mapping on more modern motorcycles. The airflow setting must be correct for maximum horsepower. Do not assume that the hose will work on every engine. Research is required. Requirements vary depending on the manufacturer and your riding style. Always consult your owner’s manual or an authorized service center before making any major changes.

Learn more about two- and four-stroke engines and how they work here.

State-of-the-art motocross engine – latest improvements

2-stroke dirt bike engine vs 4-stroke dirt bike engine Two-stroke engines have fewer moving parts and are therefore much easier to overhaul than four-stroke machines. However, two-stroke engines are known to break down more often during difficult races because the engine has to work harder due to the smaller number of parts. Preventive maintenance and rebuilding should be done at fairly regular intervals.

Two- and four-stroke engines sometimes show no visible signs of wear. Regular maintenance is always cheaper than waiting for major defects that lead to a complete rebuild of the engine head. Regular maintenance keeps even a dirty motorcycle in good condition.

To find signs that your top-of-the-line needs repair, disassemble the engine and look for small scratches on the pistons. Your bike’s owner’s manual will tell you how often you should service your bikes. You should also consider the difficulty of your rides. In general, engines with smaller displacement require more regular maintenance; two-stroke engines require more frequent maintenance than four-stroke engines.

While driving, watch for rattling sounds at low rpm that worsen and then disappear at higher rpm. Loose parts of the piston may suddenly fail. Testing for two-stroke engines includes a compression test and a visual inspection of the components.

On a four-stroke engine, there is a leak test that isolates the leaking air, determines its source and locates the problem. You can also remove the coolant cap and see if there are any bubbles or oil in the coolant, indicating a bad cylinder head gasket. In the long run, it’s much cheaper to perform these premium maintenance services yourself, while your dirt bike is tighter, more efficient and gets that big performance boost.

Upgrading of motocross motorcycles (only for motorcycles with carburetor for motocross motorcycles)

Dirt Bike Carburetor jetting mods The benefits of understanding and improving jets on carbureted motorcycles are numerous. The main jet controls the amount of fuel that enters the carburetor when the throttle is open. The pilot jet allows fuel to flow out when the engine is idling or tilting. Once the fuel has mixed with the air, combustion takes place to propel us forward.

The selection of the size and quality of the main nozzles must be considered when improving the power output of your motorcycle. Consult your owner’s manual for the proper jet settings for the temperature or relative pressure of the air you regularly ride. Improper injection can cause costly damage.

Mud-Bike modifications – detection of injection problems

A poor mixture is when the air-fuel ratio is out of whack and the piston is out of sync, which feels like chattering. Improper fuel injection is also evident in the motorcycle’s throttle response. To correct the tilt adjustment, increase the jet size until you hear the correct sound and feel the correct throttle response.

A rich jet is the opposite of a jet with too much fuel in the carburetor. The main indicator is an engine that does not idle and does not pull cleanly. A rich mixture does not always lead to engine failure, but an engine with “ignition errors” will not run optimally. You can change the jets with simple tools; it doesn’t take long once you get the hang of it.

This video explains how to efficiently change the nozzles.

Modernization of MX exhaust systems

MX bikes mods - performace exhaust systems

Your motorcycle’s exhaust pipe consists of two parts, the down pipe and the exhaust pipe. Improving your exhaust system has many benefits for the overall performance of your motorcycle. Upgraded exhausts are often lighter than original factory parts, and less weight means better performance. The materials used also play a role: tougher end caps made of carbon steel and carbon fiber protect the pipes from splinters and sinkers.

The exhaust system accounts for much of the tuning and power available to you. The convex downpipe of a two-stroke mountain bike serves as a turbocharger. A modification to something mega-powered can be a practical step in the quest for more power.

The extra power and weight reduction will result in better performance and efficiency, and you’ll also be impressed with the look and sound. As a reminder, remember to consider the exhaust as part of the fuel mixture and tuning system. Adding an exhaust for looks or sound can lead to problems – so consider this before modifying an engine.

If you’re wondering which type of exhaust would be right for your motorcycle, we’ve already put an article on exhausts on your shopping list, with some additional reading on the importance of it all here. Discover the best motorcycle exhaust system.

How To Install A Fish Finder For Top Performance In 2021

Understanding how to install a fish finder is essential to getting the most out of it. I’ve dealt with many fish finders and lots of boats, and let me tell you, there’s no reason to make it difficult. There are many ways to mount the unit and transducer, and you can connect them in a variety of ways.

The most important thing you can do is take the first step. If you want to fish at your best, you should have a fish finder on your to-do list. With this guide, you can get started!

Contents

The best new fish finder on the market is useless if you don’t have the right tools and accessories to install it. Before you compile your product list, there are a few important things you should look at first.

Check if you already have auxiliary power cables, check the mirror to see what it looks like, do you have a connection plate? And so on and so forth.

This pre-check will help you determine what to purchase, how to install the fish finder and how long the installation will take. The last thing you want to do is run to the hardware store several times when you may be on the water.

Once you have a clear idea of what you need, dive into this checklist and choose what you want.

Fish Strips

Fishing tape is a useful tool for several reasons, and if you fish a lot, you should have it anyway. You use it to route electrical cables from your equipment to your scroll battery power source. It’s a flat, malleable steel that is pliable enough that you can slide it under the barrel and pull it out. Also, wear gloves so you don’t cut yourself on the fiberglass.

cordless drill with drills

Don’t skimp on the equipment. You need a good, clean mounting hole. So make sure you have fresh, sharp drills and a good quality drill bit for the installation. This will make it easier to install the fish finder.

Masking Tape

Using tape to prevent chipping and cracking of the gelcoat is a good trick I’ve learned from many people. When you drill into the fiberglass, the tape keeps the coating from cracking when the drill bit into the hull.

Fasteners and cables

If you take pride in the appearance of your boat, you should have enough fasteners and wiring bundles to get the job done properly. That way, you can make sure you don’t have a lot of loose wires.

Shrink tubing or insulating tape

You want to prevent moisture from getting into the wire connections, and the best way to do this is to use heat shrink tubing or electrical tape. Shrink tubing is the recommended method, both for safety and aesthetics, but if you don’t have that and don’t feel like traveling again, electrical tape can also be used. You can also use pipe fittings, but they offer the least protection from the elements.

Heat gun

If you are using heat shrink tubing, you will need a heat gun to push it over the connectors. When doing this, be very careful not to point the gun near the gelcoat as it will melt and discolor.

Holder for power fuses

They protect your equipment by ensuring that the spikes do not damage it. There are many different products available, so consult your fishmonger’s instruction manual for recommended products.

Wire Crimping

Crimping pliers or wire strippers are simple tools for stripping and crimping connections. It is an essential piece of the puzzle that everyone needs.

Stainless steel screws

Once you have a clear idea of how you want to install your fish finder, you need the right equipment. Stainless steel is the ideal solution, as you will need protection from all the elements. Bring along your fasteners to make sure you have the right size bolts, washers and nuts. They should be long enough to reach under the boat or console. Sealant is also important to keep the hardware in place.

Individual arrangements

If you are installing a fish finder strobe, the manufacturer of the device will probably sell you an accessory kit that you will want to use here. If you are used to tinkering, you can build it yourself.

RAM is the most popular editing method (we’ll come back to this later), but there are some other methods. Kong and BallzOut are other methods. Just make sure the mount you choose can support the weight of your device without it falling off.

Dashboard saving block

This is a smart strategy if you anticipate that the sensor will need to be moved at some point. Instead of mounting the sensor directly on the hull of the boat, mount the unit and then attach the sensor to the unit. You can now move the unit around the boat without having to remove the sensor each time.

Types of cantilever supports

Screen of fish finder

When you install the Fishfinder software in your boat console, you have three basic strategies. The choice depends on the size of the fishfinder, the space on the console, and the size of your boat.

In-Dash

This is what we call a “flush” to find fish. This is the most coveted species of sea bass. It gives you a professional feel, and it creates a permanent home for the unit. Note that this method will not work for most fish-finding sites.

Cardanic suspension

The gimbal is an adjustable mount that comes with the fish finder. It is easy to mount if you have limited space; you can mount the unit higher so you can see it on the handlebars. Again, this will not work for everyone, and many consoles on newer boats tend to be plastic, so you will need to add an aluminum plate to mount the unit stably and securely.

strange mountain

If you want a little more flexibility and need to move your unit from time to time, third-party mounts are the way to go. If you are trying to figure out how to mount a fishfinder and need more control over placement, RAM and Kong mounts will take you almost anywhere, but they are not durable or strong, especially with heavier units.

Attaching a fish detector to the front of a boat

Three fishing rods with fish finder

Some of you may have a fish finder installed on the bow. If so, you need to make sure you have enough space. You will also need to choose an installation method based on how much space you have and how much you want to spend on accessories.

If you use a kayak with a fish finder at the bow, this method may also work for you. Just make sure you know if you have a fish finder on the side or on the bottom. Anglers of all types will want to look at these mounting options to determine if mounting their fish finder in the bow of the boat is the right choice for them.

Flash

I don’t think this method is that common because it requires a fairly precise boat shape, but it can work on some boats with the right plate and design. The problem is that it’s a bit remote and you can only place it at a fixed angle. If you end up with a reflection on the screen, forget it.

Cardanic suspension

If you are mounting the unit on the bow, I personally recommend a gimballed mount. This allows you to lift the sounder slightly so you can adjust the viewing angle. This gives you the flexibility you need to position yourself. The only problem is that once you install the mount, you are stuck with what you have, so make sure you get it right. This method can also take up extra storage space for the pole.

Third parties

The RAM and Kong holders are perfect if you need something that you can move around and move from one position to another. The problem is that you can’t use it if your boat has a built-in foot pedal. Be sure to choose without the rubber ball joints, as they won’t shift or fall off as easily if you find yourself in choppy water.

Bridge

Deck brackets are great, they fit perfectly where you want them, they provide the right height and position for the unit, and there are many great brands. Companies like Wave Tamer and Deck-It sell deck brackets, which are essentially metal brackets that extend above the outboard motor pedal recess; just behind the pedal at the front of the boat.

To install a fish detection transducer

To understand how to properly install a fishfinder, you must install the transducer on the housing. If you don’t install it properly, you will get poor sonar performance, which you will probably blame on the manufacturer.

Remember that the information you learn in this section does not replace the information in the manufacturer’s manual. It is only general information, but you should refer to the manual to determine where and how to install the transducer.

Fiberglass

If you have a fiberglass hull, you must mount the sensor on the transom or in the port. In general, small units are mounted on the transom and large units are mounted on the port plate. Make sure there are no obstructions near the sensor, including temperature and speed sensors. Sensor covers are great for protecting the sensor from hooks and rocks, and although they are a bit expensive for a piece of plastic, they are worth the money you spent on your fish finder.

Aluminum

The most important thing to remember when using aluminum boats is that you don’t want to mount the sensor near rivets or welds, as this causes air bubbles that affect image quality. Most people will probably have to use a sensor through the wall, as they cannot read this material well.

Engine falters

If you don’t know how to install a fish finder, you can buy a kit to help you install it on your trolling motor. These kits are usually of fairly poor quality, but they are easy to use and ideal for beginners.

Sonar cable

The fish finder wiring is probably the most difficult part of installing a fish finder. Not all boats are the same, but many “how-to” guides will give you a similar feel. There are a few key points everyone should keep in mind when wiring their fish finder.

Use a wire rope to pull the wires instead of removing the trim from the boat. Remember that you can also use existing wires to pull new ones. Sometimes there are wires that are never used, you can use them to help pull or push all the new wires.

One piece of good advice I’ve learned is to add a few extra wires when you do that. If you’re already involved in the project, it’s easy to add a few extra wires and you’ll be happy to do it when you want to do something else, like put lights in the street.

When routing the cables from your trolling motor to the bow unit, make sure they don’t get tangled up in the motor. Careful and thoughtful installation is important here. Be careful when installing and temporarily attach the wires to the shaft of the trolling motor and check the motor in various positions to make sure they don’t get caught in the motor.

Wiring diagrams can be found on the sonar manufacturer’s website. For example, if you have purchased a Humminbird fishfinder, you will find all the information you need here.

Here Garmin provides instructions for sensor placement, mounting and wiring.

Frequently asked questions

To connect the search unit to the fuse box.

It’s a lot easier than you think. Keep in mind that while most fish tracking systems use 1.5 amps, a more sophisticated GPS combo fuse requires more than 3-4 amps. You connect the fuse box to the reel battery using a marine grade fuse holder and a built-in fuse that runs from the battery to the box.

This is the most common method of wiring fish detectors because it is less messy and makes troubleshooting easier. The only problem many people have is that it interferes with measurements.

To install a depth gauge on a kayak

The method you use to install your fish finder in a kayak depends on many different factors. The type of fish finder, the type of kayak you want to install it in, and more. The most important thing to remember is that the portability of your kayak will be a factor, so it’s best not to put a permanent mount on it.

Final considerations

Installing a do-it-yourself fish finder is much less complicated than many people claim. Just follow the instructions the manufacturer gives you with guides like this one. I will help you determine the installation method and strategy, but usually the manufacturer is the only one who can tell you exactly how to install a particular device step by step. Be careful, be cautious and check everything. Good luck!

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get my fish finder?

Some professionals and beginners prefer to mount their fish detectors with a hull mount. This mounting involves carefully cutting a hole in the bottom of the boat and placing the transducer in the hole so that it is in direct contact with the water.

How far should the sensor reach into the water?

The transducer should be level on the bottom of the boat or just below it. The leading edge (the edge closest to the back of the boat). Click too high: the transducer is tilted out of the water and cannot hold the sonar signal.

How much does it cost to install a fish detector?

Installing a fish finder is a simple job, certainly not worth the $300. Study the instructions and do it yourself. The only tricky part is installing the transducer, but if you follow the instructions, it will work. Good luck, sir.

Kayaking the Splendid Santa Fe River in High Springs, FL –

Kayaking the Splendid Santa Fe River in High Springs, FL –

One wonders if Floridians will ever get tired of the vast amount of lakes, rivers, springs and miles of Atlantic and Gulf coastline the state has to offer. Are you kidding? There are far more watery getaways here than amusement park enthusiasts think. Get ready for an adventure in northern Florida.

Thirty minutes northwest of Gainesville, yes, fans of UF Gator Gainesville, lies the town of High Springs, population 6,000. While it doesn’t have the university atmosphere of Gator, residents are content to keep the landscape quiet and unpretentious.

O’Leno State Park.

An opportunity presented itself to spend 4 nights at O’Leno State Park in High Springs, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and one of the first state parks in Florida.

The 6,000-acre site includes a campground with 60 sites with electricity and water and two core group sites. Part of the park offers an interpretive audio tour (via cell phone) of the remaining historic buildings of the former Town of Keno, a historic 52-foot foot suspension bridge over the Santa Fe River, a CCC museum, a nature center and miles of biking and hiking trails.

The Santa Fe River disappears at some point in O’Leno National Park, a fascinating feature of this river. The river flows underground in limestone caves called the Bellamy Cave System and surfaces 3 miles downstream at the River Rise Reserve. The Santa Fe begins near Gainesville and extends 75 miles west before emptying into the Suwannee River.

The main goal of our trip was to explore a small but sensational part of these 75 miles.

The ridge guide

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection offers many good paddling guides. Figure 2 below shows High Springs Boating Boulevard northwest of 210 Ln and our drop-off point at Rum Island. See pages 5-6 for a good explanation of the 26-mile paddling route from Santa Fe and all access points. https://floridadep.gov/sites/default/files/Santa%20Fe%20Guide_0.pdf.

Iron Cats

The seven of us were going to Santa Fe on this cold and slightly rainy morning. We decided to plan our own shuttle from start to finish. As most people know, keeping cats is not easy, so we often turned to our group. What appears to be the best intention to start early usually ends up being a dysfunctional hour because one or two “cats” can’t stick to the herd mentality. Today is no different, but such is life.

My husband, Dave, and another friend would be the shuttles. We loaded up the kayaks and headed to High Springs, 6 miles south of the national park. I left the kayaks here and held them while Dave and a friend went to the end point, Rum Island County Park, 7 miles south, to drop off one of the trucks.

The shuttle locations worked well and our herd magically joined all those who were now at the High Springs boat launch. We were ready for a 7 mile paddle down the beautiful Santa Fe River.

The adventure begins

The Santa Fe, like many rivers in North Florida, is known for its occasional floods. The national park has a wooden moat next to the river that shows the years and levels of flooding since 1964. The historic peak was recorded in 1948 at 67 feet. The winter months are generally not a time to worry about flooding.

Kayaking the Splendid Santa Fe River in High Springs, FL –

The park staff warned us to keep to the right while paddling. Mostly we did, but we also found large boulders to avoid what was at the bottom of the river.

The river was calm today. The only people we saw along the way were the seven of us, which was fine with us. With today’s overcast skies, the river was getting darker and browner, but if you looked right outside the kayak, you could see the clarity, the growth of water lettuce and longleaf grasses below you, or a turtle passing by.

We ventured less than 2 miles away when we had the honor of seeing two happy otters on the shore. We sat and watched them jump, swim back and forth, and one of them even entertained us by crawling into a fallen tree to stare at us for a moment. I tried my best to get a picture, but otters are shy and fast, preferring to play “catch me if you can” the closer we got to them.

At mile 3 we passed under another access to the river, the highway bridge. 27 Although the flow of the river is sometimes stronger due to the higher water level, today it proved to be more of a “lazy river.” This allowed us to navigate the river with ease and had time to enjoy its beauty, look for wildlife, and seek out the many springs we crossed along the way.

During this 7-mile paddle, we passed 11 Santa Fe Springs that are marked on the river map at the High Springs boat launch. The number of freshwater springs in Florida is a natural occurrence. To truly appreciate the “real Florida,” you need to go on Google and understand why the protection of aquifers is invaluable to the ecosystem.

Some springs were barely noticeable, while others caused a jolt or spinning current. We shouted when our kayaks went a little faster, or gave a little jolt when we passed one of those unknown springs bubbling beneath us.

Poe Resources

http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/1612419143_938_Kayaking-the-Splendid-Santa-Fe-River-in-High-Springs-FL.jpg

We came across the largest spring on our trip to Mile 6, Poe Springs. Poe Springs is a county park for a day for those who want to cool off in the crystal clear water. From Poe Springs, 45 million gallons of 72 degree water flows daily into the Santa Fe River. Our plan was to hike to Poe and visit this 25 foot high spring. There didn’t seem to be anyone in the park on this cool, drizzly day, so it seemed like a good time to explore.

Some of us paddled as hard as we could against the gurgling spring water that flowed into the river, but we didn’t get very far. Despite all our efforts, we could not get past the limestone gushing out from under our feet. We were convinced that with a water rise of only 15 cm, we could take advantage of this beautiful spring for bathing.

Unfortunately, this was not planned and we would not have had a sufficiently reliable base to transfer our kayaks in the spring. Next time, next time.

Wild Rivers

However, we don’t know if it was because of the weather or one of those days when the animals don’t come out. Of the two paddlewaters, we happened to see a couple of yellow-bellied turtles, jumping fish that would make any fisherman wince, and a few waterfowl-type birds. We heard owls, so we counted them.

On a river this big, you would think alligators would be a constant presence. For some reason, Santa Fe is not known for its large alligator population. That’s not to say they aren’t there, but we didn’t see them.

Naked Ed.

I think most people reading this article have never heard of John Edward Watts, a.k.a. Naked Ed. A legend in his own mind? No, Ed was actually a nice character if you read the stories of those who met him, and he is a legend to anyone who loves Santa Fe River Springs.

Ed, originally from nearby Lake City, encountered Lily Springs over 20 years ago while canoeing on the river. He fell in love with Lily Springs, a private property, but found it full of trash and litter. He asked the owner if he could clean up and take care of the mess.

Surprisingly, the landlord agreed and gave Ed a non-binding payment for 20 years. Born with a “brittle bone disease,” Ed could no longer work and became disabled. It became not only the place he loved to call home, but also the work he loved. He built a cabin of grass (perhaps one on stilts) and said he preferred spring life and his own company.

Finally, Ed installed the electricity and the telephone. He kept in touch with the canoe outpost to find out how many paddlers were out each day. Ed liked to greet the paddlers from Lily Springs and wore a loincloth out of respect for those he waited on, but the name stuck because some still thought of Ed as Naked Ed.

In 2017, Ed, in his mid-sixties, “retired.” He kept Lily Springs stomach and alcohol free and insisted that everyone he came in contact with have a pack mentality. So naked Ed wasn’t such a bad guy after all.

Battle in the nest

For the past 15 years, the North Florida Volunteer Council (OurSantaFeRiver.org) has been at the forefront of the fight against the Seven Springs Water Company to obtain a low-cost permit to withdraw one million gallons of water per day from the Santa Fe River for free.

Seven Springs Water will in turn sell it to Nestlé, which will bottle the Florida spring water at 6,000 bottles per minute and sell it to the rest of the world. That’s a lot of water and a lot of plastic! Florida continues to be swamped by other water companies who regularly get permits or are asked to do the same.

The fight to save Florida’s springs and aquifers continues. Supporters of the same goal can help get rid of plastic and reduce the need for well water by buying less bottled water. For more information on next steps, see www.floridaspringsinstitute.org.

Rum Island and beyond.

Rum Island, an alcohol-free county park in White, gets its name from the smuggling and contraband of alcohol that took place there in the early 20th century. For us, it served as a fallback point to Santa Fe at Mile 7.

Just beyond this exit there were several springs we hoped to explore, but the seven kayaks were wet and cold, and we still had to go back.

Gilchrist Blue Springs, Ginny Spring, and Rum Island Spring were close, but will be saved for our next trip to Santa Fe. Dave and I visited Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park once, and the waters of the Blue Springs Glacier were fascinating and well worth a kayaking expedition.

Conclusion

After a smooth transfer to our camp, we all felt that the day had been a great success. You never know what Mother Nature will throw at you, but with the cool temperatures and raindrops here and there, we were all glad we did it and we will do it again.

Tips: When planning your paddling trip on the Santa Fe, pay attention to the level of the river, which varies with storms and rain, especially during the summer months. There are several canoe stations along the river if you want to arrange a transfer or rent a canoe. If two vehicles are available, an easy transfer can be arranged with a little research and a good map.

Thank you for doing your part to respect and protect Florida’s resources and waters.
