Honda has been making some of the best cars on the market for decades, and for good reason. Their products have been designed with something to offer every buyer, and that even extends to their entry-level offerings. The 2022 Civic Sedan is the ideal example of that philosophy. Available in four colors, it is loaded with features you would expect from a premium vehicle. Its interior is spacious and comfortable, and with all the technology you would expect to find in a modern car.

With its innovative new tailgate design, the newly announced 2022 Honda Civic Sedan is already an improvement over the outgoing model, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t already amazing. It has a new infotainment system, a better chassis, and a more powerful engine that should let you drive faster and farther.

But if the engines are the same, the transmission options are not. The 2022 Honda Civic sedan will no longer have a manual transmission, only a CVT. The 2022 Civic Hatchback will be offered with a manual transmission, as will the Si and Type R models.

But even though the Honda Civic sedan of model year 2022 has transferred engines, the interior and exterior design are new. The 2022 Civic sedan is inspired by the current Accord and is slightly longer overall with a longer wheelbase, MotorTrend writes. The rear track width has also been increased and the steering and suspension have been modified. And while the new car is 130 pounds heavier, it’s also stiffer, notes Car and Driver.

Inside, the 2022 Civic offers more rear legroom, wider front seats and a more minimalist dashboard. It comes standard with a 7-inch central touchscreen, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. And even the base model LX is equipped with a range of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking, reports Autoweek. The EX version adds blind spot detection, heated front seats and a sunroof.

But the 2022 Honda Civic Sedan Touring offers even more. Instead of a 7-inch touchscreen, it has a 9-inch screen. It has a Bose audio system, a digital dashboard, a wireless charging station and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 2021 Honda Civic has received consistently high marks from reviewers. Car and Driver says it has everything a beginner could want. And it is on this solid foundation that the 2022 car is built.

Although it’s not a Type R, the 2022 Honda Civic sedan still drives better than its 2021 counterpart, MT reports. The suspension offers a comfortable ride without sacrificing agility, and MT describes the calibration of the brakes and throttle as Porsche-like. And while the steering is a bit light, it distributes the weight well and offers more feedback than before, Roadshow says.

The new interior of the 2022 Honda Civic Sedan offers the same level of high-quality materials as before. That means reliable switches, soft-touch materials and durable hard plastics, Roadshow said.  But by using more textured surfaces instead of a piano black finish, you won’t be bothered by the residual fingerprints. And the interior has become generally roomier.

These upgrades also come without a significant price increase over the 2021 model. The base 2022 LX starts at $21,700, while the Touring version starts at $28,300. At $24,700, the EX package is just above the $23,100 Sport package.

Are there any drawbacks?

While the 2022 Honda Civic Sedan gets high marks, it’s not perfect.

Perhaps the biggest problem is the choice of engine. While the 2.0-liter and 1.5-liter engines have a slightly higher EPA 2021 rating, they don’t offer much speed. The turbocharged engine accelerates better in real life, MT says, but it’s still a step up. And Car and Driver discovered that the 0-100 km/h time of the 2022 Touring is 0.7 seconds slower than that of the 2021 car. Although Car and Driver admits that these figures are from a low mileage car.

However, the biggest downside of the 2022 car is that some features are only available in the higher trim levels. For example, the EX doesn’t even have an optional 9-inch touchscreen for the Touring. Roadshow notes, however, that the first trim level offers most of the features of the second at a lower price.

But while the 2022 Civic Sedan isn’t perfect, MT says it’s impressive as an equivalent car.
