Is This Kia Model Is the Best 3-Row SUV For the Money?

Auto experts are full of praise for the 2021 Kia Telluride. But did you know that Kia has another three-row SUV that’s almost as good and costs thousands of dollars less? Opting for the 2021 Kia Sorento may be more expensive, but it may be the best deal on the market.

The Sorento is not as spacious or powerful as its more famous brother. So why would you consider buying one? The solution depends on a number of important factors, which we will examine in detail.

Critically acclaimed 2021 Kia Sorento

Kia knows what it’s doing when it builds three-row SUVs. The Sorento and Telluride are almost universally popular models, and most shops quibble over which model is better.

U.S. News & World Report made a bold statement by declaring the 2021 Kia Sorento the best three-row SUV for the money.

It’s hard to disagree with this assessment. The 2021 Kia Telluride probably has more to offer. Paying more for a large SUV isn’t in everyone’s best interest, though, especially if you don’t need the extra space.

Whether the Sorento is big enough for your family depends on how often you plan to use the third row of seats. The 2021 Kia Telluride has a much larger rear seat.

Still, families of four or five will find plenty of room in the first two rows of the 2021 Kia Sorento. The Sorento’s third row should be comfortable enough for small children. Even small adults can enjoy these cramped conditions if you only travel short distances.

Most drivers will want to lower the third row when it’s not in use, so you have cargo space that you can actually use. This allows for up to 45 cubic feet of space, which is almost identical to the size of the Telluride behind the second row.

This Kia SUV outperforms most of itscompetitors when it comes to interior space.

APPROPRIATE: This is the only way to customize your 2021 Kia Sorento if you want to be cool.

The 2021 Kia Sorento has an attractive starting price of just $29,390. However, it is far from a basic vehicle.

Kia has equipped this SUV with features your family will love and safety systems that will put you at ease. An eight-inch touchscreen that is wirelessly compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard.

At the same time, many competitors are failing with their technological solutions. For example, the base Honda Pilot 2021 adds a measly 5-inch screen for drivers. In addition, buyers should choose a higher trim level to get the wired versions of these smartphone mirror systems.

Since the Sorento is relatively affordable, upgrading to a higher trim level isn’t too expensive. So you get access to premium features like a Wi-Fi hotspot (from S trim), wireless device charging (EX), a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation (SX) and leather upholstery with ventilated seats (SX Prestige).

APPROPRIATE: The 2021 Kia Telluride has just lost its appeal.

Some may not yet be convinced that the Sorento is the best value in the three-row SUV segment. The 2021 Kia Sorento will save you a lot of money.

For starters, Kia’s 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty is one of the best on the market. This gives the 2021 Kia Sorento and Telluride an edge over the competition outside of Hyundai and Mitsubishi.

And the Sorento’s powerful but efficient engine can rival the Telluride’s 291-hp V6. Additionally, Kia offers the Sorento as a hybrid, while the Telluride is gas-only.

Kia has equipped the Sorento with a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard. This powertrain achieves an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 26 MPG in a combination of highway and city driving.

By comparison, the 2021 Kia Telluride ($32,190 MSRP) achieves just 23 MPG, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates. The Honda Pilot 2021 also has disappointing results, as the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that it also achieves 23 MPG in combined mode.

Sorento EX and higher models are equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 281 horsepower, mated to an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. It should be noted that all-wheel drive is available on all trim levels.

A larger turbo seems like a better option considering it only costs a combined MPG.

However, MotorTrend warns against adding this option because of the transmission difference. The publication’s review says about the SUV: The 2.5T dual-clutch transmission isn’t worth it when it comes to daily smoothness.
