My personal preferences for management lines
I generally like to use weaker leaders to protect the main line and gear. A fishing break is a great way to ruin your day over something as stupid as a hook. There are ways to get out of the knot without risking breaking the rod, but that’s for another time. It’s no fun when the main line breaks either, especially if you lose so much line that it gets in the way or, in some cases, prevents you from catching fish. I like the economy of monofilament line, but since I like to fish for cod that like to hide in rocky areas, I can use fluorocarbon line that can withstand heavy wear without having to increase resistance. Fluorocarbon gives me the best of both worlds when it comes to fishing heavy rocks. Personally I like to use Berkley Trilene fluorocarbon. It has served me well over the years.
