Dodge Viper Prices are Dropping But the Car is Still Deadly

The Dodge Viper is one of America’s most iconic supercars. That’s all the market expects from a national supercar: an unpleasant car with unpleasant performance. Under the hood of our Viper is one of the biggest engines I’ve ever seen in a car, an 8.3-liter V10 (although this size may vary slightly from version to version). In the hands of an inexperienced driver, or even an experienced driver in poor road conditions, the Dodge Viper can be deadly.

automobile nickname widow

For decades, the Dodge Viper has been nicknamed Widow Widow, and I can’t argue with that. Cars are as dangerous to drive as they are to beat, but in the hands of the right driver they can be incredible machines, ready to race. There was a time when you could pay a premium price for a new Dodge Viper, and since it’s no longer on the market, it seems to have retained a fair amount of its value, which varies depending on the year of manufacture and trim level.

Fortunately for car enthusiasts, prices for some older generations have dropped to more affordable used car prices, and you can sometimes find them between $35,000 and $65,000 – but certainly not for cars in excellent condition, with low mileage, or certain trim levels.

Experienced Driver Vehicle

The aggressive styling of the Dodge Viper reflects the car’s aggressive driving characteristics. It offers performance and handling that make it a true driver’s car, and it’s hard to find something that makes you feel so comfortable on the road – or on the track. But unlike today’s sports cars, the first generations of the Dodge Viper didn’t have the safety features we take for granted today, like traction control. As a car with plenty of front-wheel and rear-wheel drive, less than ideal driving conditions can be frightening and dangerous for drivers of all experience levels.

End of production

Unfortunately, the Dodge Viper has been taken out of production for the second time in the car’s history, which likely means that its price will rise again over time, as they become harder and harder to find, and unfortunately, as more get crashed and totaled. The Viper is a real machine, and unlike most vehicles that can be driven with a little basic knowledge required to drive an average passenger car, the Viper requires finesse and in some cases quick thinking.

Although the Dodge Viper has moved into the most affordable price range in recent years, that doesn’t necessarily mean all sports car enthusiasts should rush to add it to their collection. With so much power and so few safety features, the Viper is a tough machine that commands respect behind the wheel.
