Consumer Reports Only Recommends 2 Pickup Trucks For 2021

In the United States, trucks are too popular to just call them popular. The Ford F-150 remains one of the best-selling trucks, not only among trucks, but among all vehicles available in the United States. While this fact will likely remain true for a very long time, Consumer Reports very rarely rates a pickup truck with the recommended rating. For 2021, the only two CR trucks deemed good enough are the 2021 Honda Ridgeline and the 2021 Jeep Gladiator.

What makes the Honda Ridgeline 2021 and Jeep Gladiator 2021 so special?

In consumption reports, cars and lorries are examined so thoroughly that lorries rarely come away unscathed. The CR doesn’t care if something is cool, specially designed or specific to a need; he considers everything equal. This makes their information very useful, as their objectivity can hardly be questioned.

This is confirmed by the test results of the Honda Ridgeline and Jeep Gladiator CR. CR lists anything with a score of 65/100 or higher as recommended. The Honda Ridgeline outperforms trucks on rural roads with an overall score of 80/100. The Jeep Gladiator comes in second with 65/100, just under the recommended limit.

2021 Honda Ridgeline – good truck?

According to Consumer Reports, it’s the best truck. What most trucks hate about the Ridgeline is exactly what CR likes. According to CR, the Ridgeline is the pickup truck that looks the most like a car. Most people look for that in a truck, but the CR is in comfort and economy.

LIABLE : The real reason why the 2021 Honda Ridgeline should be more popular.

Honda’s 3.5-liter V6 is a sleek and refined pickup that most pickups can’t match. According to CR, Honda’s power is smooth and linear, unlike many high-torque pickups with jerky movements. The 280-hp V6 is capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds and carrying 5,000 pounds.

Compared to the Jeep Gladiator or any other pickup of similar size, this towing limit is a bit low. But that’s not really the point of the Ridgeline. The Honda pick-up is a reliable, economical and comfortable truck for daily use. The only bad rating Honda got was for fuel economy. 20 mpg isn’t exactly bad for the segment, but it fell about in the middle.

How good is the Jeep Gladiator 2021?

The Jeep didn’t get as many points because it looks more like a traditional truck. The Jeep Gladiator is still as solid, big, sometimes rough, and a little less fuel-efficient than the Honda Ridgeline, but it holds its own well enough to maintain a good place in the CR.

The Jeep Gladiator is clearly aimed at a different type of customer than the Honda. The Jeep Gladiator is for the more adventurous driver who needs a pickup for ground transportation or light-duty work. Jeep offers a similar 3.0-liter V6 engine with 260 horsepower and a diesel engine that offers slightly less power but nearly twice the torque for towing and heavy rock crawling.

LIABLE : Gladiator’s next Jeep model is No Brains.

The Gladiator is more in the realm of typical trucks and is rather rough and tough due to its off-road suspension. The weight of the package reduces fuel economy by 18 mpg, and interior space is spartan compared to the Ridgeline.

Jeep will likely only gain popularity as the model is expanded to include more advanced engine options like hybrids and V8 monsters. The Gladiator will likely follow in the path of the Wrangler; it’s not the most practical or best car, but it will be the one thing that will take the itch out of a certain type of person.

These are currently the only two trucks the CR can keep up with, but with the resurgence of mid-size trucks, a new movement of improved and efficient pickups may be on the horizon. We’ve already seen how hungry electric car consumers are. This will likely be the catalyst from which the rebound will occur.
