Although technically an Isuzu, the BT-50 2021 is the closest thing to a modern Mazda pickup. Unfortunately, it is not available in the United States. Mazda trucks were once available here, however. And one of them this week is the car and auction sale: 2000 Mazda B3000 SX.
The 1994-2009 Mazda B3000was a Ford Ranger in every way, but the name.
The B3000 is part of Mazda’s B Series, a family of pickup trucks that has close ties to the Ford Ranger. During the gas crisis of the 1970s, compact trucks like the original Toyota Hilux and Datsun 520 were more popular than the larger, less efficient American models. To get a taste of the competition, Ford partnered with Mazda to build the B-Series Courier, Roadshow explains.
In 1983, Ford replaced the Courier with the first generation Ranger, which was different from the current B-Series. However, that changed in 1994 with the introduction of the second generation Ranger. Unlike the 1970s, the B-Series was built on the Ranger platform, according to Roadshow, to avoid the chicken tax. This arrangement remained in place until Mazda ceased production of the B-Series in North America after 2009.

In 2000. According to Autoblog, Mazda offered the B-Series in three different trim levels, with different powertrains and cabin configurations. The Mazda B3000 is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 150 hp and 185 lb-ft. The V6 can also run on the Flex Fuel system, dropping power to 143 hp and 180 lb-ft, according to MotorTrend. But if you want to get the maximum towing capacity and payload of 4,120 pounds and 1,260 pounds, respectively, you’ll have to burn gasoline, reports Cars.com.
The 2000 Mazda B3000 comes standard with rear-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission, reports Auto123. Four-wheel drive was optional, however, Edmunds reports, as was a four-speed automatic transmission. And depending on the trim level, buyers can get luxury features like keyless entry, cruise control, power windows and locks, and even leather seats.

APPROPRIATE: The first Mazda car was… A three-wheeled truck?
However, the 2000 Mazda B3000 currently in the Cars and Bids catalog is not a luxury car. This is the SX model, the basic version. As such, it’s a bit bare compared to the modern Ranger. It doesn’t even have a tachometer, although the manual does.
That means this Mazda B3000 SX has everything you need to get the job done. It includes a quick-opening tailgate, radio and 60/40 seat with sleep function. It also has air conditioning, ABS and a passenger airbag. And while the SX doesn’t come standard with a bedliner, this truck does. Moreover, the beds are anchored.

APPROPRIATE: Why isn’t there a better Ford Ranger model in the US?
Of course, this 2000 Mazda B3000 SX is not perfect from an aesthetic standpoint. The headlights are faded and there are scattered scratches, marks and scuffs on the exterior. In addition, the hood, grille and front bumper were repainted after the paint faded. Cars and Bids also reports that the hood and right fender are aftermarket parts, although the truck’s history shows no accidents.
Nevertheless, this Mazda B3000 SX from 2000 is in surprisingly good condition. It has been registered in California since it was new, so it is as good as rust free. And despite its age, this B3000 has only 19,500 miles on the odometer, and that’s not a typo.
This is a vintagework truck affair.
At the time of writing, this 2000 Mazda B3000 SX is up for auction for $5,600 with four days to go. Given the condition and mileage, this is a below average price. The only cheaper B-series trucks from that era on Autotrader exceed 100,000 miles.
Before it was a redesigned Ford Ranger, Mazda’s little B-series pickup was a classically light and underpowered workhorse. https://t.co/xyybgOvKOT

APPROPRIATE: The cheap, simple microphones are terrible, and I want a ….
As Cars and Bids notes, these trucks have been used as work trucks, have high mileage and are subject to wear and tear. This B3000 is not as luxurious as a modern pickup, really. But it’s the kind of honest, simply functioning car that many buyers are looking for, Car reports. And it’s very hard to find a clean one.
In short, it’s a reliable workhorse that still has a long way to go. In our opinion, this is a godsend.
