Stolen $3 Million Ferrari F50 Gets Totaled by FBI Agent During Joyride

The Ferrari F50 is by far one of the world’s rarest hypercars on the planet. With just 349 examples of this ultra-rare Ferrari ever made, prices today go as high as $3 million for cars with pristine ownership histories.

However, one F50, in particular, went on a wild ride after being stolen, found by the FBI, and crashed by an agent during a joyride. According to Rob Ferretti of the SuperSpeedersRob YouTube channel, this F50 story quickly goes from bad to worse.

How did this $3 million Ferrari F50 get stolen in the first place?

This broken Ferrari F50 story starts all the way back in 2003 with a test drive. According to Ferretti, an unidentified man scheduled a test drive with a Pennsylvania Ferrari dealership after fronting as a wealthy business person. Although Ferretti is unsure, it seems the man gave the dealership a false name, information, and driver’s license.

During the test drive, the man reportedly told the salesperson that he was content with the F50 and wanted to purchase it. Eventually, the man asked the salesperson to drive the hypercar back to the dealership so he could ride in the passenger seat. However, once the salesperson got out of the car, the unidentified man took off in the $3 million Ferrari F50.

From there, the car was not seen again despite the dealerships’ best efforts. According to Jalopnik, Motors Insurance, the dealership’s insurance company, reportedly paid the dealership for the stolen hypercar.

After disappearing for five years, the FBI accidentally found the stolen Ferrari F50 while conducting a separate investigation. Unfortunately for Motors Insurance, the agents decided to hold on to the car during a trial.

According to Jalopnik, over a year after the Ferrari F50 was found in 2009, an FBI agent allegedly decided it was necessary to move the vehicle. Additionally, the agent asked an assistant U.S. attorney if he wanted to ride in the passenger seat. In an email covered by Jalopnik, the assistant stated:

“Just a few seconds after we left the parking lot, we went around a curve, and the rear of the car began sliding. The agent tried to regain control, but the car fishtailed and slid sideways up onto the curb. The vehicle came to rest against a row of bushes and a small tree.”

The obvious assumption here is that the FBI agent was not familiar with the 512-hp Ferrari F50. According to Jalopnik, the FBI agent blamed “bald tires” for the incident. Regardless, the crash caused extensive damage to the car’s carbon-fiber bodywork.

What happened to the FBI agent and where is the car now?

If you assumed that the FBI got completely off the hook for this Ferrari F50 crash, you’d be correct. According to Jalopnik, Motors Insurance decided to file a lawsuit to recover $750,000, the F50’s market value at the time. However, the U.S. Department of Justice reportedly denied the claim and decided that the insurance company was not entitled to any payment.

In 2012, the crashed and stolen Ferrari F50 popped up again in an online Copart auction. Unfortunately, the supercar was still in its crashed state and reportedly sold with a salvage title. In 2013, Fox News found that the supercar went up for sale again. This time, someone had fixed it, leaving it looking brand new. Unfortunately, we don’t know how much it sold for, or where it is now. Regardless, it likely has the craziest past of any F50 ever.

Modifying cars, trucks and motorcycles is one of the best parts of being a gearhead. Hot rods, shredders and cars with sunroofs have such a long and rich history that it really sucks when it’s done poorly or just tacky. Making the Buick LeSabre uglier with ugly modifications is one thing, but mutilating a Ford GT40, which is almost perfect anyway, is really a shame.

What has Mansory done to the Ford GT40?

Mansory is a German tuning house specializing in very high-end models. Unfortunately, he decided to look at three Ford GT40s. According to Car and Driver, Mansory will unveil the Mansory, a supercar based on the Ford GT40, in June 2020.

The motoring world was anything but satisfied with what had become of the beautiful GT40. It’s warm blue, studded with carbon fiber, a massive fender, and cartoon wheels that fold up to something a nine-year-old would do in Forza. Mansory lacks taste and discretion in every way. The GT40 was once encased in a carbon fiber body with many new angles and exaggerated features that made it look more like a sci-fi toy than a real car. The new bumper gives the face a Groucho Marks look with a raised eyebrow above the headlights.

The only two interesting design elements on the Le Mansory #2 are the two roof vents (I love roof vents) and the three-way exhaust on the rear. How did the facility get there?

About the same… Car and Driver mentions that all interior panels have been restored and repainted, along with the seats, to match the original BMX bike paint. The seats and door panels are wrapped in a wicked red that resembles the glowing eyes of Autozone’s Cobra gear knob. Behind the sticky seats is a modified version of the Ford GT40’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6. Mansory says it will make 700 hp the second time around and reach a top speed of 220 mph, 4 mph faster than the Ford version.

The Next Toyota-Subaru Collab Might Be an AWD Hot Hatch

Cooperation between car manufacturers can produce interesting cars. The modern Supra, for example, is the result of a collaboration between BMW and Toyota. And it’s only because Toyota partners with Subaru that the 86 and BRZ exist. But new rumors suggest that the two Japanese manufacturers have not yet ended their partnership. There are rumors that Toyota and Subaru will work together to develop a hatchback with all-wheel drive.

Then there is the matter of numbers and specifications. We don’t know how much power this Toyota-Subaru car will have or how much it will cost. There’s also no official release date yet, but Cars Guide reports that it could come as early as September 2022.

When you compare the Ford Bronco Sport to a Jeep Compass, it almost feels like a joke. The Ford Bronco Sport could have been an SUV of its size, like the more rugged Jeep Renegade. That’s a much more accurate comparison.

Is Ford Active-ly Planning To Bring the Fusion Back To the US?

By the mid-2020s, there was only one sedan left in the American Ford lineup, the Fusion. But now that it’s gone, the Mustang is the only remaining passenger car in the blue oval. But even before Fusion was cancelled, there were rumors that he would return. But if it is, it won’t be a sedan.

Even before the Fusion was officially dead, we were hearing rumors that Ford might bring it back. Not as a sedan, but as a crossover/station wagon, reports Autoblog. In fact, it’s the Ford version of the Subaru Outback and Crosstrek. And the name of this hypothetical car would be the Ford Fusion Active.

The Ford Fusion Active was originally planned for the 2022 model year, reports Autoweek. However, given the current impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry as a whole, this estimate seems unlikely, according to the Car and Driver report.

But that was before spy photos of a heavily camouflaged Ford hatchback/station wagon were posted online. And from a new set of leaked photos, it looks like the Ford Fusion Active is making progress, reports Autoblog. Of course, Ford has not officially commented on these photos. However, if they show a future Fusion wagon/crossover, a 2021 release date is still possible, according to Car and Driver.

Ford’s idea of turning one of its sedans into a forklift/crossover is not far fetched. This isn’t even new. Outside the U.S., Ford sells an improved Focus van, the Focus Active. And according to Top Gear, it’s even better than a crossover.

However, Ford Authority suspects that the camouflaged car in the photos is not necessarily the upcoming Ford Fusion Active. The website reports that the specific camouflage pattern will not be used for North American prototypes, but for those marketed internationally. According to engine officials, it could also be a stretched version of the Focus platform. This could explain the shape of the tailgate, which is not exactly the same as the prototype driverless car that broke in early 2020.

Even if Ford brings the Fusion back to the US in some form, it may not be called the Fusion Active. Ford registered the Stormtrak brand in early 2020, reports Roadshow, which has yet to appear on any Ford cars. At the time, a company spokesman said Ford often filed trademarks to protect new (or existing) phrases, designs or symbols, not necessarily to indicate new business or production plans.

We often see a compound bow with a higher exit velocity. What’s a Le-Off? Simply put, it’s the reduction in draw weight that you feel when you’re in full extension. Advanced bows use bow wires and bow lugs to store bow energy. This reduces the weight maintained at full thrust. It is calculated as a percentage of the total weighting of the loan. Many bows have an average draw length of 80%, so a bow with a draw length of 60 pounds will hold 12 pounds at an 80% draw length. This allows the archer to hold the bow longer to aim before shooting.

Not all states allow higher rates. So check your local regulations before you decide to string a bow. For some sheets you can also adjust the output.

We always see arcs announcing the height of the staples, but what does that mean? When we talk about the height of the forestay, we mean the distance between the riser and the rope. This is important for the speed of the arrow and the tolerance of the bow.

A fast bow usually has a shorter bow height to achieve a higher arrow speed. What do you mean? You’re talking about a bow that’s set for 75 pounds of pull. A bow with a bow height of 6 inches has more speed than a bow with a bow height of 7 inches, because your arrow has less room to travel before it releases from the bow. The downside is that the shock of releasing the bow is harder, usually at a shorter stack height, and some of that shock is transmitted to your hand.

Some archers place less emphasis on tolerance and more on speed.

What does it mean when the bow claims to be ready to fire?

Bows that claim to be ready to shoot straight out of the box mean that the bow has been factory fitted with all the basic elements needed for effective archery. The string is reversed, and some include a visor attached halfway up. All other accessories are included. You may need to make a few simple adjustments to get the bow properly adjusted. Most of these bows include instructions for fine tuning, so someone with little or no archery experience can prepare them to their liking.  Consult the manual of your bow and if in doubt, take your bow to a professional bow shop.
