2021 Toyota Sequoia Can’t Beat its Biggest Competition

The Toyota Sequoia is the top-selling SUV in America and one of the best selling cars, but it’s been beaten by its biggest competitor. The 2019 GMC Yukon Denali has already overtaken the Toyota as America’s top-selling SUV.

The 2022 toyota sequoia redesign is a vehicle that Toyota plans to release in 2022. It will be the company’s first SUV since the Tundra, and it can’t beat its biggest competition, the GMC Yukon Denali.

The Toyota Sequoia 2021 and Ford Expedition 2021 are two of the biggest SUVs available. If you’re looking for a new big SUV, you may be thinking if the Toyota Sequoia or Ford Expedition is the safer option. Despite the fact that they’re both excellent options, Consumer Reports gave the 2021 Ford Expedition a slightly higher overall score.

Is there a difference between the Sequoia and the Expedition?


Consumer Reports recommends both the Toyota Sequoia and the Ford Expedition for 2021. That’s a tremendous accomplishment. Vehicles selected by Consumer Reports must get a high overall score. The total score of Consumer Reports is based on their road test, projected dependability, owner satisfaction, crash testing, and safety equipment. 

On the road test, the Toyota Sequoia 2021 received a score of 60. This includes a four-out-of-five rating for its speed. The Sequoia took 7.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. Routine handling has a three-out-of-five rating.

The 2021 Ford Expedition, on the other hand, received a 73 in its road test. It received a four-out-of-five for acceleration and could go from zero to sixty miles per hour in 7.3 seconds.

The Ford Expedition and the Toyota Sequoia both received a three for dependability. For owner satisfaction, the Expedition and Sequoia both received a four. Owner satisfaction is assessed by a survey and is based on how satisfied individuals are with what they received for the money they spent for their car.

The Expedition has a small advantage in terms of ride quality.


The 2021 Ford Expedition received a three-out-of-five rating for its ride, compared to the Sequoia’s two. The Expedition’s driving position was also a point higher, at four out of five, despite noise and front seat comfort being the same. 

Both the Expedition and the Sequoia have a five-star rating for rear seat comfort, but both have a three-star rating for third-row comfort. 

For rear access, interior fit and finish, and trunk/cargo space, the two big SUVs received the same scores. The Expedition, on the other hand, performed somewhat better in terms of front access, third access, and usability. In terms of climatic system, they both received a five out of five. 

Both the Toyota Sequoia 2021 and the Ford Expedition 2021 received a one-out-of-five rating for fuel efficiency. Overall, the Sequoia got 15 mpg, with 10 in the city and 21 on the interstate. The Expedition, on the other hand, could achieve an overall fuel economy of 16 mpg, with 11 mpg in the city and 23 on the interstate. According to Consumer Reports, this will cost a Toyota Sequoia owner an additional $200 each year, but it may not be a huge issue if you like the Sequoia otherwise. 

They are nearly identical in terms of basic safety equipment.

It’s almost there, but it’s not quite there. While the 2021 Ford Expedition has all of the features that Consumer Reports recommends for new vehicle buyers, the Toyota Sequoia lacks one feature: lane keeping assist. 

Forward collision warning, automated emergency braking at city and highway speeds, and pedestrian recognition are standard on both the Sequoia and the Expedition. Lane departure warning is also included, but lane keeping assist is not. Both the Toyota Sequoia and the Ford Expedition come standard with blind spot warning in 2021. 

All new vehicles come with backup cameras, but both SUVs also include rear cross traffic warning. Anti-lock brakes, as well as traction and stability control, are standard on new Toyota Sequoias and Ford Expeditions. Daytime running lights are an option in the Sequoia and Expedition. 

Front side airbags and rollover protection are also standard on the 2021 Toyota Sequoia and 2021 Ford Expedition. 

So, between the Toyota Sequoia and the Ford Expedition, which is the best option? Because neither the IIHS nor the NHTSA have crash-tested the Toyota Sequoia, it’s difficult to tell which is the overall safer car. It’s difficult to go wrong with the 2021 Ford Expedition if you’re seeking for a better all-around big SUV.
